Arisaema taiwanensis |
The Heronswood Nuresery's catalog calls this species "the queen of the genus". It is supposed to grow up to 3 ft tall. Below are a couple of hasty snapshots of a small specimen which bloomed in mid-March on my balcony in California. When planted, the tuber has been about 1.5 inch in diameter. It produced an inflorescence and later also an infrutescence, shown in another page, but no viable seed. Yet another page shows some more details of the inflorescence development.
Here is the inflorescence, about 4 inches tall (not including the petiole). |
And here is the inflorescence of another specimen, with the appendix pulled up to show the interior. This photo taken in mid-April 1996. |
Overall view just after the inflorescence has fully opened. Two weeks later, the leaf petiole grew to nearly 2 ft. tall. | |
Top view of the same plant. |
